This Wednesday, May 25th is the 18th annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day (NSHFD). It is the nation’s largest older adult health promotion event which is held on the last Wednesday in May during Older Americans Month. The goals for Senior Health & Fitness Day are to make exercise fun, increase awareness of the benefits of regular exercise for older adults and encourage all seniors to take advantage of local health and fitness programs. This year’s theme is “Make Fitness a Goal for Life”.
Over 100,000 older adults will participate in Senior Health & Fitness Day activities at more than 1,000 locations in the U.S. including hospitals, park and recreation departments, senior centers, health clubs, retirement communities, churches, health departments and other community locations. These local organizations will host a variety of activities based on the interests of older adults in their communities. Event activities include fitness walks, low-impact exercises, health screenings, health information workshops and much more! To find events in your community, check your local newspaper or senior organizations.
So make it a point to eat healthy and do some form of exercise this Wednesday to celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day!
